Gary gets the Early Riser prize for getting up at 2:30 am to catch the 4:10 Amtrak to Chicago. It was due in at 9:00 but arrived at 9:45. David and I met Gary; David had taken the Metra down from Barrington, and my wife had driven me to the Van Rental Place. I then drove to Union Station. Of course, it was ONLY $15 to park for two hours and 3 minutes while we waited for trains to arrive. If the last train had been 3 minutes earlier, it would have been ONLY $13.Jim arrived next. The local Chicago Boy had his parents drop him off.
The State House was due in at 9:45. Eric later told us it was 20 minutes late for the 5:30 am start in Carlinville. By Springfield when Yogesh joined him, it was 40 minutes late. Stephen got on in Lincoln and they all finally got to Chicago at 10:45.
The drive from Chicago to Bowling Green was uneventful EXCEPT for frequent bursts of downpour-level rain. Also, MapQuest got us to Ohio but not to Bowling Green. We had to ask at a Gas Station. We had lunch at the "Knute Rockne Memorial Oasis" at -- where else -- McDonalds.
We checked into the dorms and went to dinner at a Chinese Buffet. We came back to the dorm and practiced three rounds of questions from last year against the team from Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois.
I sent them to their rooms at 10 pm with the promise of a 6:30 wake-up knock.
