The members of Team Illinois enjoyed themselves in the MGM Theme Park today -- as I understand it, every single one of them rode the "Tower of Terror" which earns them 150 points each for bravery. The demonstration competitions were enlightening as we saw many bright but buzzer-happy students from the other 39 teams ring in with some right, but mostly wrong answers.
Another of the "fast buzz" questions we had discussed in the van ride last weekend came up in the practice rounds: "What is the only state ..." but nobody buzzed in early. The rest of the question is "... has a unicameral legislature" and the correct answer is "Nebraska".
Coach Martin did great in the Coaches Challenge while Coach Grierson managed to make a fool of himself by ringing in with several wrong answers. It was a good example of how NOT to win a match. :)
Back in our rooms, we practiced one set of previous Florida questions before calling it a night. We meet tomorrow at 8:30 for breakfast, or at 9:00 for those who don't eat breakfast, prior to our Official Team Photo at 9:10 am. We'll have one last short practice, then attend the Opening Assembly and Luncheon at 11. We'll probably watch Kentucky and Washington DC battle it out at 1:30 before we open against Virginia, Montana, and North Carolina at 4:00 pm.
